POLOG was founded in 2005 by three partners. As long time colleagues within the trade of polar logistics, they knew each other well and shared a passion for the logistical challenges in relation to activities in the Polar Region.
Logistics was low status field
The idea of founding POLOG was based on a common perception that the science and business of exploration projecting was characterised by a misconception of the role of logistics. On one hand the primary costs and effort of exploration projects goes into handling goods and personnel – on the other hand this field of expertise was not taken seriously and suffered from low status.
POLOG is based on the conviction that remote location logistics are to be taken as seriously as the amount of money and hard work put in to this field of expertise suggest. Working in the Polar Regions, logistics means everything – underestimating the value of good logistics can result in financial disaster.
An equally important idea of POLOG was to combine commercial and scientific activities to provide large scale benefits and synergetic effects for all clients - small and large, scientific and commercial.
Experience counts the most
The founders of POLOG have all done a long time in the Danish Military Arctic Dog Patrol Unit – The Sirius Patrol. This experience has been pivotal for shaping the fundamental values of POLOG. Month-long patrolling under extreme arctic conditions has helped the founders understand the great value of planning. Bad planning can be fatal. You can take all the food you want and it will matter little if you forget the means to cook it.
What is more important and relevant today is the wide range of experiences the founders has gathered after they ended their military service in Greenland. Solving logistics in the Arctic and the Antarctica and using highly innovative approaches to deal with the daily challenges has provided the founders with the skills and ability to solve highly complex operations.
To make a remote location project succeed, a clear overview of all necessary elements and their connections is essential. Only then you will achieve the optimal logistical use of every link in the chain.
Today POLOG carries with them this legacy of values and fundamentals. But POLOG continues to develop. Today the company has developed a force field of partners and personnel that provides the company with a foundation of experience, know-how and networks that is without comparison.
