In 2014 POLOG operated the mobilisation of 250 tonnes of building material for the construction of the Danish Villum research station. It has now been finished and is located close to the military base Station Nord in Northeast Greenland.
The mobilisation project included a door-to-door solution, which meant transport of pre-fabricated modules and windows from Denmark to Greenland.
The transport operation consisted of several legs: starting with a trucking leg from the cargo pick-up point to the port of Hundested, a shipping leg from Hundested to Longyearbyen in Svalbard and an air freight leg, using an AN12 aircraft for an air bridge between Longyearbyen and Station Nord, a distance of 700 km.
The air lift was performed in 18 flights.
